CoPower & VSP® Vision Care are excited to announce The Ultimate Eye Care Experience winner of the $600 valued prize: Rachel Fredericks.
We asked everyone to share their story of how they lost their glasses in the most epic way and here is Fredrick’s Winning Story:
Hello!
Here’s my epic story of how I lost my glasses:
I was volunteering in Bali, Indonesia. On my day off, my friends and I decided to go watch what would end up being the most incredible sunset of our lives at the Uluwatu Temple. We had been told that there were some monkeys there, and that they were known to take hats off your head and grab things out of your hands. We shrugged off the warnings. After all, how ferocious could some small monkeys be? So we headed off to the temple full of excitement. Once we arrived there, I stepped out of our taxi, and was standing out of it with the door still open while trying to find the right amount of money to give our driver. While I’m figuring out the money, I hear my friend yell, “Rachel, WATCH OUT!” A huge monkey had jumped onto the car. But before I could do anything, the monkey leapt onto my head, I let out a shriek, the monkey yanked my glasses off my head, jumped back onto the car, and proceeded to gnaw on my glasses. Meanwhile, tourists from all over the world decided that this was a fantastic time to laugh at the nearly blind American girl and take photos of the monkey eating her glasses. The monkey started running away with my glasses, and I was yelled at one of the temple guards to help me get my glasses back. He tried throwing a hardboiled egg at the monkey to lure the glasses out of his hands, but the monkey seemed to be more interested in the taste of plastic. After several more failed attempts of getting the glasses back, I gave up, convinced that I would be watching a sunset half blind. Thankfully, a brave fellow tourist took pity on me and somehow scared the glasses out of the monkey’s hands. After I thanked the tourist profusely, I looked at my sweet glasses and saw massive chunks of them missing. I proceeded to watch the most glorious sunset of my life, with my half eaten glasses, while flinching and running away whenever a monkey got within 20 feet of me. This may sound like it came straight out of a sitcom, but this was real life, and I have the new fear of monkeys to prove it.
I hope you enjoyed the tale.
Sincerely,
Rachel Fredericks
