Proper Alignment For The Chiropractic Benefit Gap

When considering an ancillary benefits package or plan, chiropractic care is often overlooked and misunderstood as to the exact coverage offered and how it can be accessed.

According to a 2015 Gallup Poll®, 46% of adults who have been to a chiropractor within the last five years say they would go to the chiropractor more often if it wasn’t so expensive. Also stated in the Gallup Poll®, nearly half of U.S. adults do not know whether their insurance covers chiropractic care. More awareness about the coverage of chiropractic care and its costs could help potential clients consider chiropractic services.

CoPower can add a chiropractic plan to any group with a medical plan in place on the 1st of any month, on or off their medical renewal date. When introducing small group Health Net PPO or Kaiser HMO medical plans, please be aware that chiropractic benefits are not included.

In order to assist with clarity, we’ve provided a breakdown of carrier chiropractic services and the pertinent information helping to direct groups toward their gap-free care:

Health Net PPO: No chiropractic benefits are included in these PPO plans and no chiropractic rider is available from Health Net.  Landmark is the only option for chiropractic benefits for small groups purchasing Health Net PPO plans.

Kaiser Permanente HMO: Kaiser offers four plans—two Platinum, one Gold and one Silver—that have embedded chiropractic benefits. In addition, they no longer offer the optional chiropractic rider for plans that do not include chiropractic benefits. Landmark is the perfect solution to easily add chiropractic benefits to the majority of Kaiser medical plans. As Kaiser small groups renew throughout 2016, they will not have chiropractic benefits if they are not purchasing one of the previously mentioned four plans.

Carriers offering chiropractic benefits often include high deductibles, which makes accessing these services costly. HMOs that include a chiropractic benefit require a PCP referral to access the chiropractic benefits. Obtaining necessary referrals can be challenging, and time consuming.

Landmark Healthplan: All Landmark benefit plans offer first dollar coverage, members will only pay a small copay to access benefits and they can self-refer to any Landmark chiropractor.
